Circuit Productions Inc. (CPI), was founded by Susan Goldbetter (on right performing with Charlie "Cookie" Cook) in 1986 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion, production and preservation of the uniquely American art forms of jazz and tap dance. Our mission is to inspire, entertain and educate underserved audiences in New York through performances, public classes, workshops, and arts education programs featuring senior artists of color who are living legends of the city's rich tap and jazz history. Annually, Circuit provides booking and management services for senior and emerging artists; placing performers in museums, libraries, community-based organizations, local colleges, public schools, and hospitals.
The organization presents senior artists of color, most between 60 and 80 years old, in a broad range of cultural activities that include inter-generation performances, master classes, and community outreach programs. In addition, CPI provides these artists with managerial and professional services including bookings, fund raising, and personal management.
Dear Friends -
As of this writing the worldwide economy is showing small signs of recovery. As consumers we are being told to spend, SPEND, SPEND! Certainly if you can – then do so. However, if you can’t then you will be pleased to know that here at Circuit Productions we are able to continue our FREE summer programming. Although events will take place throughout the five boroughs we want to draw your attention to two special FREE events that will take place this June in Brooklyn. Circuit’s Blues & Jazz Heritage Project makes both programs possible - so read on for details.
On June 11, 2009 Joey Morant and the Harlem Blues and Jazz Duo will be performing at the grand re-opening of the Kings Highway Branch Library – a branch of the Brooklyn Public Library system. Trumpeter Joey Morant works regularly with the Harlem Blues and Jazz Band delighting audiences with his Louie Armstrong interpretations.
Then on June 20th Roxane Butterfly will be presenting a film and tap dance demo in a special tribute to her mentor, the late, great Jimmy Slyde. The event takes place at the newly renovated Brooklyn’s Children’s Museum. Don’t miss these legendary performers!
Other FREE programming continues as follows:
The World Beat Series continues to take place at New York Public Library sites in Manhattan, Staten Island and the Bronx. These interactive presentations encourage youth and adult populations to participate in diverse music and dance events.
Finally, not to be missed is the 2009 Rhythm Journeys performance featuring the Last Mambo King—Orlando Marin and his Quintet at the beautiful Bronx Library Center, in the Fordham section of the Bronx. This great Latin and salsa performer began his career with people like Tito Puente, and boasts of being one of the longest running mambo bands in NYC not to mention his induction in to the Stickball Hall of Fame!
Hope to see you at one of these very special performances!
Hit the beat until we meet!
